Survival in the Cold

Survival in the cold is not as difficult as it sounds as long as you have the proper know-how and the correct products.  This article will provide you with essential tips on survival in the cold.  Having the proper survival kit  along with an emergency blanket and an emergency survival sleeping bag are recommended because  they are designed to retain 90 percent of your body heat.  We at SurvivalKit.com also recommend putting the 16 hour body warmers  in your sleeping bag or emergency blanket.  Hypothermia occurs when your body temperature drops below 95 degrees F.  Some side effects of hypothermia include  being dazed and confused,  shivering violently and your lips, ears, fingers and toes turning blue.  If your body temperature drops as low as 90 degrees F, then your organs start to fail and you’ll need immediate medical attention.

Recommended Survival Tips:

* In order to prevent your body temperature from dropping, it becomes extremely important for you  to dress in several layers of clothing, preferably in wool or other fabrics that can dry quickly.   On the outer layer, you whould wear windproof and watertight materials such as nylon and Gore-Tex. Do not wear cotton because when that fabric gets wet, it becomes heavy and does not insulate your body.

* You must cover your head in blankets, towels or even newspapers, whatever you can find.

* If possible, drink plenty of warm fluids.  This does not include consuming alcoholic beverages or any forms of caffeinated beverages, because they both hinder the body’s heat-producing mechanisms.

* If you are outdoors and can not find shelter, you must move away from the wind.

* If available to you, it is highly recommended for you to put hot water bottles under your armpits and between your legs, but make sure to not put anything on your bare skin.

* Move as little as possible because movement can cause a severely hypothermic person to have a heart attack.

* There should be no rubbing or massaging you because that can cause severe damage if you also have frostbite.

* Do not eat anything.

The cold weather should not deter you from enjoying the outdoors, as long as you are prepared and know the various methods for survival in the cold.
