There’s nothing like having fresh produce right at your disposal. We found a great tutorial that shows you how to have a constant supply of fresh green onions (also known as spring onions) growing year round right on your windowsill.

Plant small bulb onions in a 5 liter plastic bottle filled with compost. Once they’re grown out, you can harvest the green stems to use as green onions. Each time you harvest a stem it will re-grow, giving you a near constant supply of green onions. The bulbs will begin to weaken with time and lots of harvesting, but not before you have months and months of a great, fresh supply.

Supplies you may need:

  • Plastic bottle
  • Scissors
  • Heated metal
  • Onion sprouts
  • Soil

Step 2: you need to remove the neck of the bottle then cut holes around it. You can use a scissor or a heated metal tool to make the holes. Make sure the holes are just the right for the onion bulbs.
